The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park (SOSMP) in Live Oak, Fla held it’s first country music jam in 1992. The first Suwannee River Jam featured country artists Sawyer Brown, Restless Heart, the Bellamy Brothers, Wynona Judd, John Anderson, Tammy Wynette, Shenandoah, Ricky Van Shelton and comedians/hosts Williams and Ree. About 5,000 attended this first-ever event that fanned the country music addiction flames of those fans, most who still attend the Jam every year. In 2011, the SOSMP is pulling out all stops and celebrating the 20th birthday of the Suwannee River Jam, the largest country music jam in the South. That first historic event, held in what is now referred to as the Jam Field, began a grand tradition for the SOSMP and thousands upon thousands of country music fans that has continued for 20 years.
Jam tradition includes two stages of performances over three days, thousands and thousands of excited fans holding reunions with family and friends, barbecues, golf cart parades, hiking, jam sessions all over the park around campfires into the early morning hours, canoe trips on the famous Suwannee River at the SOSMP, bicycling, trying out all the festival foods, shopping the vendors and Arts and Crafts Village’s quaint stores and visiting the SOS Café and Restaurant where the walls are hand-painted in rustic Suwannee River scenes. During the Jam, fans come from near and far to hear and see country artists, get their photos taken with their favorite artist during fan club meet and greets while making new friends and jamming to the sounds of America’s best country music artists. The fun is indescribable, the experience can be life-changing and the memories…well, the memories last a lifetime and are re-visited often. Weddings are not uncommon as a result of two people meeting at the Jam and falling in love…and the chapel is always ready over on Rees Lake so the happy couple can tie the knot! Shucks, the SOSMP even has someone who can perform the ceremony at a moment’s notice! Just be sure you’ve got the license in advance!
The Jam has been known by several names during its lifetime, but in 2003 the event forever returned to it’s original name of Suwannee River Jam. In 2011, the SOSMP celebrates the 20th birthday of the Jam with one of the biggest and best lineups of country artists ever - Ronnie Dunn (formerly of Brooks and Dunn), Gary Allan, Luke Bryan, Kellie Pickler, Phil Vassar, Jerrod Niemann, Darryl Worley, Lee Brice, LoCash Cowboys and Blackberry Smoke and a host of up and coming artists along with the winner of the 2011 SRJ Talent Contest. There is also a Ms. Suwannee River Jam contest, a bounce house for the kids, you can dance the night away at our Silent Disco arena and grab a shirt from the shirt shack wall! Also, look for your Suwannee Shuffle Pass at participating booths. For those with Gold VIP tickets, there will reserved seating near the stage, food, fun, access to the VIP area and air-conditioned rest rooms! Silver VIP ticket holders also get lots of great perks. Three-day and daily ticket holders will enjoy festival seating (bring your own fold-up chair or blankets).
